The Sabres need help down the middle and could go after this Canucks star.
The Buffalo Sabres are entering the offseason with a clear need to improve at the center position. Adding another impactful center to their top nine would be massive, and they are being viewed as a potential suitor for one of the NHL’s top pending free agents because of it.
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Lyle Richardson named “surprise landing spots” for some of the NHL’s best free agents, and he picked the Sabres for Vancouver Canucks star Elias Lindholm.
While Lindholm has been viewed as a possible target for contenders like the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes, it would also make sense for the Sabres to pursue Him. He would give them another true star down the middle.
As Richardson noted, the Sabres would benefit from adding an impactful center with experience to their roster. Their top three centers are Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens, and Peyton Krebs, all of whom are young. Adding an experienced star to the mix would be excellent, as he would give them more offense and leadership.
With the Sabres looking to finally take that next step and be a playoff team again, it would not be too surprising if they made a push to bring in a high-impact forward like Lindholm. They have the cap space to pull off such a move.
Nevertheless, we must wait and see if the Sabres pursue Lindholm in free agency. On paper, there seems to be a fit, but that can be said for just about every other team in the NHL as well.
