There was a lot of movement in the system today.
Right-hander Eduarniel Nunez was promoted to Triple-A Iowa from Double-A Tennessee.
Shortstop Hayden Cantrelle promoted to Iowa from Tennessee.
Outfielder Yohendrick Pinango promoted to Tennessee from High-A South Bend.
Outfielder Jordan Nwogu sent down to South Bend from Tennessee.
Right-hander Ethan Roberts continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery. He joins the Tennessee Smokies.
Right-handed pitcher Carlos Reyes joins South Bend from Rookie-ball ACL Cubs.
Outfielder Ismael Mena was activated off the injured list and re-joined Low-A Myrtle Beach. To make room, shortstop Alexis Hernandez was placed on the development list.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were caged by the Syracuse Mets, 8-7.
Julio Teheran continues to struggle with the I-Cubs. Today he got the loss after getting rocked for six runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings. Two of those hits were solo home runs. Teheran walked two, hit two and struck out four.
The I-Cubs were trailing Syracuse 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning when center fielder Alexander Canario made a game of it by hitting a grand slam. It wa Canario’s third minor league home run this season. Canario went 2 for 5 with five RBI. He also walked once.
Iowa made it close by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth. DH Brennen Davis hit a solo home run, his fourth on the year, in the ninth. Davis went 1 for 4.
Right fielder Owen Caissie was 2 for 5 and scored on Canario’s slam.
Left fielder Darius Hill was 2 for 5 with a double. He scored twice.

Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were left on the launchpad by the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels), 8-2.
Starter Brandon Birdsell took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits over five innings. Birdsell walked one and did not strike anyone out.
Catcher Pablo Aliendo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second, his fifth home run this year. Aliendo went 2 for 4.
Shortstop Josh Rivera was 2 for 3 and scored the other run on a James Triantos sac fly. Triantos went 0 for 3.
Third baseman Matt Shaw was 2 for 4.
Left fielder Yohendrick Pinango was 0 for 3 with a walk in his Double-A debut.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs boiled the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 8-5 in eleven innings.
Will Sanders had a few control issues, but otherwise turned in a dominating start. Sanders gave up no runs on just one hit over five innings. Sanders walked three and struck out three.
Angel Gonzalez pitched the tenth and eleventh innings and got the win after South Bend scored four runs in the top of the eleventh. Gonzalez gave up one unearned run in the bottom of the tenth on just one hit. He walked one, hit two and struck out two.
Second baseman Rafael Morel hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning. It was Morel’s first home run this year. He also had an RBI single to break up the tie in the eleventh. Morel’s final line was 3 for 4 with a walk and a steal. He scored three times and drove in the two.
Shortstop Jefferson Rojas was 3 for 6 with a double. He drove in three runs and scored two.
DH Pedro Ramirez went 2 for 6 with an RBI.
Left fielder Felix Stevens was 2 for 5 with a walk. He drove in two, including Rojas in the eleventh.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were vetoed by the Fredericksburg Nationals, 5-3.
Erian Rodriguez got the loss after he surrendered four runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. Rodriguez struck out four and walked one.
Shortstop Cristian Hernandez was 2 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. Hernandez had one run scored.
Catcher Frank Hernandez was 2 for 4 and scored once.
Left fielder Christian Olivo was 2 for 4 with a double.
