The Sabres should target this Kraken winger.
The Buffalo Sabres are expected to make multiple roster adjustments this offseason. One specific area that they should look to improve is their bottom six. This is especially so considering that Eric Robinson, Zemgus Girgensons, and Victor Olofsson are all free agents this summer.
As a result of this, one player who should immediately grab the attention of the Sabres is Seattle Kraken winger Brandon Tanev. The 32-year-old is entering the final season of his deal, and there has been speculation over the prospect of him being a trade candidate.
If the Kraken end up shopping Tanev, he would be a big-time target for the Sabres. It is no secret that they need more hard-hitting veterans in their bottom six, and Tanev would provide them with just that. Due to his steady defensive play, speed, and aggressiveness, Tanev would also be a nice addition to Buffalo’s penalty kill.
Tanev appeared in 66 games this season with the Kraken, posting seven goals, 16 points, and 148 hits. It was a down year for him offensively, but he also had 16 goals and 35 points in 82 games in 2022-23. As a result, he’s a clear bounce-back candidate, and the Sabres would be wise to take a shot on him if he’s made available.
