Bruins GM Going All In This Summer

Don Sweeney is ready to make some major moves this summer.

The 2023-24 season should go down as a successful bridge year for the Boston Bruins. After losing Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Tyler Bertuzzi, Taylor Hall, Dmitry Orlov, and more, the Bruins remained among the top clubs in the NHL. They also put up a good fight against the mighty Florida Panthers in the second round.

However, now that the Bruins have several free agents, they are entering the offseason with roughly $21 million of cap space. As a result, they are in a prime position to make some significant moves.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney made it abundantly clear that he plans to take advantage of Boston’s plethora of cap space. Here’s what he said on the matter:

“We are in a situation where we can look to add to our core group of guys, and that also includes some of the younger guys… But we’re gonna be aggressive to be able to complement what we currently have in some areas.”

Given Sweeney’s transparency, it is fair to expect that the Bruins will make some major moves this offseason. Bringing in a first-line center should be their No. 1 objective, but they would also benefit from adding a top-four left-shot defenseman and a top-six scoring winger.

It will be very interesting to see what Sweeney does next. Clearly, his goal is to improve the Original Six team, and now is the perfect time to achieve that.
