Former Bruin Tyler Bertuzzi Looking to Re-Sign

Former Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi is looking to stay put.

The Boston Bruins ended the Toronto Maple Leafs’ season in the first round of the playoffs. It was another entertaining seven-game series between the two Original Six rivals, but the Bruins emerged victorious again.

While the Maple Leafs lost, former Bruins winger Tyler Bertuzzi did his part to keep Toronto in the series. He produced well offensively and also provided them with plenty of physicality. The same can be said with his regular-season play, as he posted 21 goals, 43 points, and 98 hits in 80 games.

After a strong season, Bertuzzi is now due for his next contract. If he hits free agency, he should have plenty of suitors and get a big payday. However, if the Maple Leafs have it their way, they will prevent No. 59 from testing the market.

According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs have informed Bertuzzi that they want to keep the gritty forward around. Pagnotta also reported that Bertuzzi is interested in re-signing with Toronto.

Given how much Bertuzzi’s play improved down the stretch, it is understandable that the Maple Leafs are open to bringing him back. It also makes sense that Bertuzzi wants to continue to play with superstars like Auston Matthews and William Nylander.

This is certainly not the best development for the Bruins, as there’s a real chance that they will need to continue to deal with Bertuzzi in the Atlantic Division next season.
